Liverpool expecting to sign ‘unbelievable’ PL star, but they’re trying to keep it quiet

Liverpool are moving quickly and quietly to get the signing of Alexis Mac Allister wrapped up from Brighton.

Mac Allister looks set to be the Reds’ priority in the transfer market, as they aim to strengthen their midfield. And according to journalist Ryan Taylor, Liverpool are trying to get the deal done with a minimum of fuss.

“The key point to mention is it will be on Brighton’s terms. Mac Allister has a long-term contract and I see them as a team that are going to encourage a bidding war to maximise the kind of fee they get,” Taylor told GiveMeSport.

“But that also said Liverpool like to go about their business quietly and I think they won’t make too much noise on that.

“They’ll try and go beneath the radar and get that deal wrapped up as soon as possible. I don’t know about the fee, but it does look like Mac Allister will be going to Anfield.”

Liverpool not moving quietly enough

Given all of the noise surrounding this potential deal, Liverpool haven’t moved all that quietly in their dealings with Mac Allister. The move has been the talk of outlets across the world for the last month or so.

It is already common knowledge, for example, that the Reds have offered the 24-year-old a contract already. There seems to have been no disguising their interest at all.

It also seems very unlikely that other interested teams aren’t fully aware of the ‘unbelievable’ Mac Allister’s situation. Should a Chelsea or a Manchester City come in for the Argentine – as has been suggested they might – it could make life very difficult for Liverpool. As Taylor mentions, that’s exactly what Brighton want.

The Seagulls are adept at over-pricing their players anyway, so the starting point for Mac Allister is already high. But if clubs with greater resources start hiking that price up further, Liverpool are going to drop out.

Reports have already filtered out to suggest that the World Cup winner would prefer a move to a Champions League club this summer, anyway. Although Liverpool could yet make that happen, chances are that they’ll just miss out.

So, although it’s fantastic to hear that Mac Allister to Liverpool is now expected, it still seems relatively perilous to us. All it could take is a rival bid from a competing team and the house of cards will fall down. Hopefully the Reds have done enough to convince Alexis already.
