Liverpool have made a formal contract offer to Alexis Mac Allister ahead of a potential move from Brighton.
Mac Allister now looks likely to be the Reds first addition of the summer, as talk of an early transfer swirls. And according to Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Liverpool have already put their proposal to the player himself.
Expanding on information previously relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Merlo wrote on Twitter that Liverpool have offered Mac Allister a contract until 2028.
There’s no word just yet on the World Cup winner’s reaction to the proposal. Although the journalist does report that it’s Mac Allister’s ‘idea’ to wait until the end of the Premier League season to make his decision.
In any case, Merlo claims that the 24-year-old is certain to leave Brighton one way or another this summer.
Liverpool make Mac Allister proposal
Hopefully Liverpool have managed to get both Mac Allister and his father on side with whatever contract they’ve put forward. The player’s dad appears to be the main driver behind his son’s move away from the South Coast. Failure to win him over could be fatal to their chances.
Thankfully, they already appear to be on good terms with Mac Allister senior. The former Boca Juniors player was reportedly a visitor at Anfield earlier in the season.
Forever thorough in their recruitment process, Liverpool will surely have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of the ‘fantastic’ Argentina international.
Should the offer be acceptable though, there’s still the challenge of dealing with Brighton. The Seagulls are notoriously severe operators in the market and Liverpool will be wary not to upset them.
Certainly, good relationships formed here could help them in future negotiations. Annoy or upset them though, and the Reds could be black-listed when talent such as Moises Caicedo comes on the market down the line.
With Brighton ready to do business for Alexis though, hopefully a deal can be reached quickly. All parties seem willing to get things boxed off fast. In the meantime, there may be a few Liverpool fans tuning in to Brighton’s game with Manchester United this evening.
