Reported Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister is ready for a move away from Brighton this summer.
That’s the view of former England midfielder Paul Merson. Giving his Premier League predictions for Sportskeeda this week, Merson touched on Liverpool’s interest in Mac Allister. The pundit thinks that the Argentine is virtually certain to find himself at a new club next season.
“Alexis Mac Allister is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks. I can’t see the Argentine midfielder staying at Brighton beyond the current season,” he said, while also predicting a 3-1 win for the Reds against Brentford this afternoon.
Liverpool make move for Mac Allister
By now, it seems clear that Mac Allister’s future lies very much away from the Amex stadium. That’s something that Brighton themselves have seemingly long-since accepted.
At this moment, it seems likely that Liverpool will be the beneficiaries of that. The Reds are reportedly very much leading the race to sign the Argentina international and are even said to have offered him a contract already.
However, even if Mac Allister accepts the terms put to him by Liverpool, they’ll still have to sort things out with Brighton.
The Seagulls are tough negotiators, as Chelsea in particular have found out recently. If they’re to lose him, then they’ll make sure to extract maximum value out of their No.10.
As per a number of reports, £70m is the figure they have in mind. But as Liverpool reportedly scour his contract for a release clause, perhaps they can still get him for cheaper than that figure.
Let’s hope so, otherwise Mac Allister may end up staying on the South Coast after all. A good player he most certainly is, but a £70m one? We’re not so sure. Either way, he’s due a step up and if Brighton lower their demands, he’ll surely get it.
