Liverpool have made Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister one of their primary targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Reds are in need of a midfield revamp this off-season, and according to The Times, that’s exactly what they’re going to do.
They claim that Liverpool are preparing to inject their midfield with some ‘key signings’ over the coming months. Only one is mentioned specifically though, with Mac Allister named as being ‘high on the list of targets.’
All signs pointing to Mac
This is great news. Last night the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano suggested that a deal between Mac Allister and Liverpool could be getting closer.
Now, the arguably even better connected Paul Joyce of The Times has name-dropped the Argentine. Reporters in Mac Allister’s home country have also backed up claims of Liverpool’s interest. It feels like this one really could happen.
If it does, it’s seemingly likely to be resolved in the early part of the window. That would be good news for Jurgen Klopp, who likes to get his business done with plenty of time to spare.
As a result, all things considered, Mac Allister could be a perfect signing for Liverpool. Already looking the part in the Premier League, you feel that he could still go up a level or two further. With respect to Brighton, playing and training alongside even better players at Anfield could unleash yet more potential.
The only thing possibly drawing the Reds back could be the 24-year-old’s price-tag. As they are fully entitled to do, the Seagulls tend to value their players very highly indeed. Mac Allister is no exception to that.
There have been claims that they’d be looking to recoup around £70m on the World Cup winner. Regardless of his qualities, that feels extraordinarily high. If he’s to remain a big target for Liverpool, there’ll surely have to be some wiggle room on that price.
