Liverpool force Premier League CEO into ‘realistic’ response as they reportedly want two of his players

Liverpool reportedly want two Brighton players right now. Their CEO gave a ‘realistic’ response when pushed on such interest.

Brighton are magnificent at finding players – that much is obvious. Two of their players coming out of the World Cup feel like stars-in-the-making, after all.

Alexis Mac Allister is the headliner. He became a regular for Argentina as they won the tournament, pushing his reputation into the stratosphere. There’s little doubt that Brighton will face interest from bigger clubs in 2023.

One of those could be Liverpool, too. La Repubblica in Italy claims the Reds are involved in the transfer race, with Juventus and Inter also wanting him.

And Mac Allister isn’t even the only Brighton player Liverpool reportedly want. Moisés Caicedo is another – and the Reds’ interest there appears to be a little more long-term. That’s according to the Mirror, anyway.

We’re big fans of Caicedo and see him as an exciting signing, albeit an expensive one.

Liverpool chase Brighton players

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has a lot of work on his hands, then. Liverpool are far from the only club chasing his players and big offers will arrive on his table this year.

So how’s he handling it? What’s the stance at Brighton? It’s one of confidence but also realism.

“We are quite happy as we are, certainly for as long as we can be,” said Barber, per the Argus. “But we are also realistic. Alexis Mac Allister has just won a World Cup at 23 years of age and has had a fantastic season with us.

“We know there is going to be interest in Alexis. We know Moises Caicedo is one of the top talents.

“This is normal, this is the world we wanted to operate in and this is the world we are operating in. We can’t be surprised when there is interest and at some point we have to accept that these players will go on to play at an even higher level than ours.”

Baber goes on to stress that Brighton do not want to sell either in January. We imagine they’ll pull that off, too, and can at least keep Mac Allister and Caicedo until the summer.

But once the season ends, things will get stressful for the Seagulls. And Liverpool might look to take advantage.
