The father of reported Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister has suggested that his son will leave Brighton this summer.

Mac Allister has emerged as a potential option for Liverpool after a super season on the South Coast. And speaking to Argentinian outlet Bola VIP, Carlos Mac Allister says that Alexis has ‘most likely’ earned himself a big move.

“Normally the next transfer window will find him playing for another institution,” he claimed. “We don’t know which one, we are just starting talks in general, but it is most likely that Alexis will be playing for another team next July.”

The Mac Allister’s prepare their next move

It has been clear for a little while that Mac Allister is ready to make the step up to a bigger club. That’s no disrespect to Brighton who are set for another brilliant windfall. But the Argentine is now a World Cup-winner excelling week after week in the Premier League. As a result, he’s a wanted man.

One of the clubs most in need of a player like the 24-year-old is certainly Liverpool. As an energetic little midfielder who’s capable of playing just about anywhere in the attacking third too, he’d suit what the Reds need right now.

Having already proven himself in the Premier League and at international level, he’d be a pretty safe bet. It’s no surprise to hear then that they’d love to sign him.

But clearly, those things come at a cost. Brighton were smart enough to tie Mac Allister to a new contract before the World Cup, aware that his value would continue to rise. As it is, his stock will never be higher than it will this summer.

Consequently, Brighton appear to hold all the cards here. There have been claims that they’ll look to recoup as much as £70m for Mac Allister.

But that ignores one crucial element: he and his father are obviously expecting his current side to play ball. If they stand in Alexis’ way, they’ll risk upsetting both he and his family. That’s not a good look. So, it would seem that there’s a deal there to be done. Liverpool would appear a good fit for Mac Allister to make that next step. This is one to keep an eye on for sure.
