Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has held direct talks with Liverpool target Mason Mount, in order to convince him to sign an extension with the club.
That’s according to The Athletic, who have shared an update on the 24-year-old’s future.
As per the report, the West London outfit still hold the England international in high regard, despite numerous contract offers being rejected.

Thus, on Friday, Boehly himself held a conversation with Mount. He implored his importance within the squad and reiterated his desire to keep him at the club.
Chelsea believe the talks were a positive development. Once looking like a foregone exit, they now think it’s possible he stays.
However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool remain the favourites to sign Mount in the summer, despite Arsenal having joined the race.
Boehly held direct talks with Mount
After the Reds pulled out of the battle to land Jude Bellingham, Mount appears to be Jurgen Klopp’s priority target this summer.
The Merseyside club will be looking to bring in three new midfielders, and the 24-year-old will likely top their list as they head into the transfer window.
Up until The Athletic’s latest report, the consensus was that Mount does want to join Liverpool at the end of the season, and that is has become more and more likely that this outcome will be the case.

Right now, any speculation is slightly premature, as the 24-year-old will wait until the summer to make his final decision.
There is still a big chance he makes the move to Anfield, but that won’t be without Boehly trying to convince him to remain at his boyhood club.
