Liverpool want to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer, and the player seems to be keen to join.
That’s according to a report in The Daily Mail today. They claim that there ‘appears to be a mutual desire’ between Liverpool and Mount to make a summer move happen.
No further details are given, but it remains abundantly clear that the Reds are very hopeful of snatching the 24-year-old away from Chelsea.
Mount no substitute for Bellingham
Alongside the signing of Bellingham, there is plenty to like about Liverpool targeting Mount. He’s homegrown, versatile and is rarely injured. Three things that make up a perfect midfielder for Jurgen Klopp right now.
But with the marquee signing of his England colleague now ruled out, bringing in the Chelsea academy graduate is perhaps less appealing to fans.
Certainly, with a big midfield rebuild needed, Mount isn’t the headline act many would hope for. He’s a good player, sure, and could be available at a bargain price. Nevertheless, he’s had a pretty terrible season.

Liverpool could be pinning their hopes on a man who has recently been dropped by a club sitting 11th in the Premier League table. With all the trouble brewing inside Anfield at the present time, that doesn’t feel like a wise idea from the recruitment team.
Of course, Mount is a better player than he’s shown this season. Under the tutelage of Klopp you get the feeling that he could be a really good signing for Liverpool. Joe Cole has previously labelled him as being ‘unbelievable’ and he’s had many more plaudits during his career, too – including a glowing appraisal from Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
But that doesn’t excuse the fact that he can’t be a ‘silver bullet’ for their midfield issues. In truth, no player can. In Jude Bellingham though, the Reds would have certainly had the next best thing. Should Mount get his way and end up at Liverpool this summer, they’ll definitely need to bring in one or two more to help him out.
