Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to keep hold of Mason Mount this summer amid reports that Liverpool are interested in signing the England international.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, the pundit suggested that the Blues would be crazy to sell the 24-year-old in the upcoming transfer window, with Mount currently one of the leading players to leave Chelsea as the west London side plan a mass squad overhaul.
The Daily Mail recently reported that Liverpool and Mount are keen on a move to happen, and the Reds could make a transfer possible if the playmaker ultimately decides to reject a new contract with Chelsea, with talks currently ongoing between the two parties.
Indeed, Mount is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge and a strong case can be made that Chelsea are looking at their rebuild the wrong way if the midfielder is sold on, with Merson of the opinion that the west London side will be crazy to allow such a transfer to happen this summer.
Merson said on Mount potentially leaving Chelsea: “Their next window is massive, they need to get a centre-forward in and clear out what they need to clear out. One of the players who is supposed to be going is Mason Mount, he’s one of their best players, that can’t happen in my opinion.”
Liverpool will hit the jackpot if they sign Mount this summer
The new hit circus in town that is Chelsea Football Club look set to dominate the airwaves this summer with their latest round of transfer shenanigans, and for Liverpool, the Blues selling Mount to Liverpool will be a sensational deal for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The 24-year-old is perfect for Liverpool’s needs this summer, and with Chelsea now looking crazy enough to sell the midfielder to lower the size of their squad, the Reds’ have the capitalise on this moment if they’re to take their squad to new heights.
