Liverpool are further along in their interest of Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat than Tottenham Hotspur.
Both clubs have been attracted to the 26-year-old’s recent performances at the World Cup, and want to sign him from Fiorentina. But according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are more likely than Spurs to win the race.
“The sale of Amrabat is actually just Fiorentina. Fiorentina hate January windows, if you remember they lost Vlahovic to Juventus,” he told The Spurs Chat Podcast. “So a lot will depend on Fiorentina and how bullish they are around price.
“But the other thing unfortunately from Tottenham’s point of view is that there are other Premier League teams in for him as well.

“Liverpool are probably a little bit ahead of Tottenham in this race, as I understand it.
“Watch Liverpool on this front because I get the sense of looking at who is more advanced on this front, rather than historically, Liverpool are ahead of Tottenham in this race.”
Liverpool leading the way for Amrabat
It will be interesting to see what happens with Amrabat in January. Of all the midfielders linked with a move to Liverpool, his transfer feels the most likely to get done next month.
Although Fiorentina are said to be unwilling to lose the Moroccan, they’ll surely do business at the right price.
Amrabat’s stock will probably never be higher than it is right now. As a result, the Italian side will perhaps be hopeful of creating a bidding war between interested clubs.

As per the latest reports, Liverpool value Amrabat at around £39m. That wouldn’t sound like a terrible price for a January recruit. But if a bidding war were to ensue, then you wouldn’t think Liverpool would want to go too much higher.
Having said that, where else are they going to get such a high quality addition mid-season? The Reds have clearly been interested in Amrabat for a little while and they really could do with a new body coming in next month.
So, we’ll just have to see how this one plays out. From the sheer volume of reports intimating as much, Liverpool are certainly in the running for a winter move. How far they run in that race may well ultimately depend on Spurs.
