Sofyan Amrabat is Liverpool’s ‘most likely’ January signing, according to one journalist. The Moroccan shone at the World Cup.
Graeme Bailey told TeamTalk this week that Sofyan Amrabat is the one to watch for Liverpool fans right now. The Reds want a new midfielder – or three – but it’s the Moroccan who could join in January.
Amrabat was a revelation at the World Cup. He played an enormous role in helping his country achieve history as the first African side to make the last four. His reputation took such a boost, in fact, that Fiorentina could cash-in.
And while Bailey claims Liverpool have several names on their shortlist, Amrabat is the one to watch in January.

“The most likely option for January at this point looks like being Sofyan Amrabat,” he said. “Fiorentina have said they are not looking to sell. But that is not what his agents are saying as they are making it clear they believe something is achievable.
“Amrabat is a player that Liverpool have been well aware of for some time. And he ticks a lot of boxes, especially for January. He really is one to keep an eye as there are others, including Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, who also like him.”
Sofyan Amrabat in January
We have Amrabat down as one of the players Liverpool could sign in January, alongside Ismael Bennacer. It would mean paying a premium on the current hype around him, though.

That, after all, feels like the only reason Fiorentina would sell right now. Amrabat has jumped from being a decent player to a world-class one in the space of a month – that hype may not last forever.
But that isn’t to say it’s ‘wrong’, either. We were massively impressed with the midfielder in Qatar and feel he’d be an ideal addition.
There’s just a lot of attention on him right now – and that attention naturally drives the price up. It’s perfectly possible that Liverpool still believe he’s worth it, though. With talk that his value is £25m and up, we’d be inclined to agree.
