£39m player’s agent is urging him to sign for Liverpool, it’s his ‘dream’ move – journalist

The agent of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is going to push hard to sell him to Liverpool next year.

That’s according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Speaking to Dutch outlet Soccer News, Di Marzio was asked whether Amrabat is on Tottenham manager Antonio Conte’s wishlist.

“Yes. Because he has all the characteristics he needs to play under Antonio Conte. But right now, they’re very happy with Bentancur, and he’s playing the same position,” he said, before adding some very intriguing colour indeed.

“But I think Amrabat’s real estate agency, Stellar, is going to try to bring him to Liverpool in the Premier League. Everyone sees something in that, it would be the dream of the agency, but also that of the player in question. And Klopp wants to sign a new central midfielder. There has already been talk, but no official steps have yet been taken.

“Another team that could bite is Brighton & Hove Albion, although Fiorentina don’t really want to sell him at all. He is the gamble of Rocco Benito Comisso, who brought him to Florence. Anyway, if the price tag around his neck for the World Cup was twenty million euros, it is now 40 to 45 million [£39m]. If that is offered, then Fiorentina will think about a sale.”

It sounds like the ball is very much in Liverpool’s court on this one.

Liverpool in the box seat for Amrabat

This is an encouraging update from a journalist who tends to be very well connected in the transfer market.

However, the price hike mentioned should be a little bit of a concern. At this moment, it doesn’t feel especially likely that Liverpool would commit to spending around £40m on Amrabat.

With big moves in the offing for Enzo Fernandez and Jude Bellingham, it’s hard to see Liverpool putting substantial funds towards a third player.

But, that’s where the Reds find themselves right now. There’s been a chronic lack of investment in the midfield. They now find themselves having to do the work of four or five transfer markets rolled into two.

Besides, is it really such a lot to pay for a player who has excelled so brilliantly on the world stage this winter? Well, maybe not. By the same token though, how many Liverpool fans would have been happy with that kind of fee for Amrabat a month ago? Not many.

So, Liverpool need to be a little wary of overpaying here. By all accounts Liverpool’s interest pre-dates the World Cup anyway. As a result, they’ll have had a figure in mind long before today.

If they can agree on that figure with Fiorentina, it sounds like Amrabat could be rocking up at Anfield before too long. After the tournament he’s had, that’s really exciting news, whatever the fee.
