Amidst talk of a takeover at the club, and less-than-stellar performances on the pitch, there’s plenty of uncertainty at Liverpool currently.
The recent announcement that Julian Ward will soon leave his role as sporting director has only added to the concern at Anfield.
However, with so many changes going on at the club, one thing remains a certainty: Liverpool need Jude Bellingham.
Fans have known it for going on a year or so now. Given the persistent stories linking the Reds with a move for the teenager, the board evidently know it too. So does Jurgen Klopp.
Should Liverpool have new owners in place by the time the summer transfer window opens, Bellingham has to be their priority. Not only would it get supporters immediately on-side, but it’s clear that the England man can lead Liverpool into the future, too.
Bellingham the statement that Liverpool need right now
Signing Bellingham would work two-fold for any prospective new owners at Liverpool.
Firstly, his addition would obviously improve matters on the pitch. The Reds midfield is crying out for renovation, something which has been brutally exposed at times this season.
The 19-year-old isn’t an immediate fix by himself. But he’d go some way to repairing a crucial area of the pitch.
There’s a reason that former Red Daniel Sturridge recently called Bellingham ‘sensational’ via Instagram. In fact, there are several of them.
That quality is being laid bare at the ongoing World Cup. Jude has started all three of England’s games so far. He’ll be crucial in dictating how far the Three Lions end up going in Qatar.
Secondly, signing Bellingham would be a major statement that Liverpool aren’t going anywhere.
The big dogs of European football are all in the hunt to convince the Borussia Dortmund man to join them. Should Liverpool get a leg up on the likes of Manchester City, and in particular Real Madrid, it would be a morale boost to say the least.
At a time when it has felt that Liverpool’s star might be starting to fall, the new owners can fast-track a return of the feel-good factor.
Of course, there is the small matter that it could cost them up to £130m. But adding everything up, you’d have to say that, at this moment in time, it feels worth it. The first signing has to be big. It has to be Bellingham.
