Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign Jude Bellingham after a £68m failure this summer, according to reports. Liverpool will try to get him.
There promises to be a fierce battle for the Englishman in 2023. Most expect him to leave Borussia Dortmund, though for an enormous fee. Liverpool will attempt to force their way to a winning position, though.
And Klopp has extra motivation, it seems. Marca claims that he won’t ‘turn the page’ after missing out on Aurélien Tchouaméni to Real Madrid in the summer.
It was widely reported that Liverpool tried to sign Tchouaméni before Real got him for £68m. The Frenchman confirmed those reports this week, admitting in a press conference that the first offer for him came from the Reds.
“The first team to show interest was Liverpool,” Tchouameni told Le Parisien. “There were discussions, but as soon as Real Madrid entered, my mind was made up.”
That failure has Klopp motivated to bring Bellingham to Anfield.
Klopp desperate to sign Jude Bellingham
The battle for Bellingham is getting complex, to say the least. His performances for England, dubbed ‘world-class’ by Keiran Trippier, have teams lining up for the player.
The Times says City have the money for him, which could be £130m. That came with a promise to Pep Guardiola for his new contract.
At the same time, there’s a feeling from journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft that Dortmund could refuse to sell to a state-backed club. That would rule City out entirely, given there’s no release clause as with Erling Haaland.
In Spain, Sport claims that Real won’t meet the asking price. It’s too high, as far as they’re concerned, and they intend on convincing the player, rather than the club.
Thus Liverpool may be able to grant Klopp his wish here. They’re one step away, in a sense, in that the Reds may be the only team who will give Dortmund what they want.
