Report: Liverpool now absolutely determined to stop European rivals beating them to 'special' player

Liverpool are more determined than ever to keep Jude Bellingham from the clutches of Real Madrid.

That’s according to Marca, who claim that the Reds are refusing to be beaten by Los Blancos yet again. On the back of losing two Champions League finals to the Spanish giants, Liverpool then saw Aurelien Tchouameni choose Madrid over Merseyside in the summer.

Now, they are reportedly adamant that they won’t be beaten again. It’s claimed that this could ‘complicate’ things for Madrid, who are said to be unwilling to do ‘crazy things’ to land Bellingham.

Crazy things such as spending £130m on the 19-year-old. That kind of figure would reportedly be ‘far out of reach’ of Real Madrid.

As hard as that is to believe, it does seem as though Liverpool could be making some headway with the Bellingham camp. Marca claim that there’s a ‘closeness’ from Bellingham to Liverpool that wasn’t there a month ago.

Liverpool back in the box seat for Bellingham?

Not too long ago, it had felt as though Liverpool’s hopes of landing Bellingham were slipping away.

Failing to get going in the Premier League this season, it appeared as though others had jumped ahead of them in the queue.

However, over the last few days, reports have Liverpool roaring back. They are reportedly now back in the box seat for Bellingham and could even have an outside chance of getting a deal done in January.

All of this must be taken with a pinch of salt, though.

There is still a World Cup to play before the next transfer window even opens. Bellingham’s full focus will be on doing well with England, before he turns his eyes to his future.

The encouraging thing is that Liverpool are still in the running. At this point, Champions League qualification for next season is very much in the balance, at best.

For some top players, that would be enough to rule a club out. But Bellingham looks to have a far longer-term plan than a single season. If he truly believes Liverpool to be the best place for him, that will be with or without playing in Europe’s premier competition.

It would sting to lose out to Madrid again. Hopefully there’s plenty of work going on behind the scenes to convince the player who Pep Guardiola recently called ‘special’ that Anfield should be his next stop.
