‘Then he’s not coming’: Redknapp believes Liverpool form will cost them a game-changing player

Jamie Redknapp warns Liverpool that their form will cost them Jude Bellingham in 2023. The Reds reportedly want the player.

Reports all over the place claim Liverpool want Jude Bellingham next year. Cadena SER in Spain, for instance, suggests the Reds as Bellingham’s preferred choice – ahead of Real Madrid.

But that’s very much the case for now. Things could easily change and Jamie Redknapp warns that Liverpool could cost themselves their shot at Bellingham if they don’t improve their form.

“Jude Bellingham is someone who can completely change that midfield area,” he told Sky Sports. “But if you don’t make top four, he’s not coming to Liverpool and that’s the dilemma they have.”

Redknapp’s right, of course. Liverpool may fancy themselves as in the race for Bellingham right now but finishing outside the top four? That would be a death knell for their chances.

Bellingham is arguably the player who could make the biggest difference to Liverpool. Not only is he a sensational talent for the here and now – as he showed against Sevilla last week – but his potential is enormous. There aren’t many players in world football with that kind of potential.

We’ve long seen Bellingham as so ideal, in fact, that he’d be entirely justifiable as the Reds first £100m signing. That remains the case – Liverpool just need to be in a position to make it happen.

The Independent reports that Liverpool no longer have the lead in the race for Bellingham. Their form, as Redknapp says, is the reason for that. Without a guarantee that he’s joining a club in the mix for the biggest trophies, the player won’t move.

Now, at the end of the day, Liverpool are hardly going to suddenly spring into life because of Bellingham. Any upturn in their form needs to happen because they’re just not playing well right now. But it’s a reminder of what can happen with a fall in standards.

Liverpool could come to regret this season immeasurably should they not turn things around.
