There’s little doubt that Liverpool love Jude Bellingham but last night’s performance just made him a lot harder to sign. The midfielder is a truly sensational talent.
Jude Bellingham was unbelievably good against Sevilla as Borussia Dortmund won 4-1 in Spain last night. The 19-year-old, named captain on the night, was the one who really got the show going.
He played a fantastic crossfield pass for Raphael Guerreiro to emphatically score. It was a pass for Thiago to be proud of, let alone a teenager.
And Bellingham wasn’t done there. He scored Dortmund’s second himself, making a darting run into the box to receive the ball before toying with defenders. The composed finish, again, had the look of a seasoned goalscorer and not a young midfielder still learning the game.
Dortmund’s Twitter account summed things up nicely: “Jude Bellingham is simply sensational,” they wrote.
It’s a performance that Liverpool will both love and hate.

There is no doubt at all, in our minds, that Bellingham is the perfect signing for Liverpool right now. They need a midfielder, they need youth, and he’s got the talent to be a star.
But it goes even further. Bellingham’s box-to-box style fits in perfectly with a Jurgen Klopp midfield. He ticks the homegrown box, too, which frees up space in the squad for other signings.
It is as though the 19-year-old has been created for this specific situation at Liverpool. The only problem now is that he’s getting too good, too fast.
Fabrizio Romano recently explained that Liverpool do want Bellingham – as is clear by now -and that they’re waiting on Dortmund. The German side haven’t set a price yet as they’re going to adjust things depending on the player’s World Cup.
That, of course, includes performance up until the World Cup. Dortmund see a rapid rise in his reputation and the price will reflect that.
So while a performance like this further cements that Bellingham would be sensational for Liverpool, it also does the same for every other club on the planet. And it’s certainly arguable that the Reds don’t need a performance like this in order to see just how good he is.
A relatively quiet season would have made it easier to strike a deal. Bellingham tearing the Champions League up, though, risks pushing his price ever closer to world-record levels. While it won’t hit £200m, does £150m really feel out of the question right now?
