Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been wearing a protective boot as he looks to recover from his latest injury set-back.
That’s according to the Liverpool Echo. They claim that the Liverpool player is wearing a boot while his issue is monitored.
The injury is reportedly ‘not thought to be serious.’ However, it’s claimed that it’s still yet to be ‘properly assessed.’
Jones missed the final friendly of pre-season against Strasbourg on Sunday having picked up a knock prior to the game. The £47k-a-week man was reportedly desperate to play at Anfield, but had to sit it out.
Still chance for Liverpool to dip into the market
In isolation an injury to Jones doesn’t impact Liverpool all that much. He isn’t a regular starter for The Reds and doesn’t always impact the game enough when he does get on the pitch.
It does take away another midfield option from Jurgen Klopp, though. Having already seen Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out for several months, Liverpool could do without any more bad news in that department.
There is of course still time for Klopp to dip into the transfer market if Jones is set for a period out. But given Liverpool’s track-record, this would seem incredibly unlikely.
Instead, Klopp would seek to get the most out of the other options he has at his disposal, and pray for no more injuries.
Without Jones, Liverpool still have decent numbers. But Tyler Morton’s loan has made him another potential option that Liverpool can no longer use. As things stand, they are heavily reliant on a group of six players, some of whom are relatively injury-prone.
Klopp won’t be worried, though, and by the sounds of it Jones will be back sooner rather than later.
Some Reds fans may be sweating at the sound of the Liverpool player wearing a boot. But hopefully it’s just a precaution. Get well soon, Curtis.
