Report: 'Quality' Liverpool player has suffered a major injury blow and will miss months

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out for months with his injury, according to reports. The Liverpool midfielder can’t catch a break.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will now miss months with his injury.

We already knew that this was a serious problem, of course. Jurgen Klopp said as much recently, saying that his recovery would take a lot longer than Caoimhín Kelleher’s.

“With Oxlade it will take longer,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “It’s a serious hamstring injury and it will take longer.

“But it’s a hamstring, and we all hate this word, we hate the injury but anyway it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one.”

And it seems this truly is a serious injury. Oxlade-Chamberlain now reportedly won’t be seen until at least October – and that’s if ‘months’ means as little as two.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out for months

It’s a gutting one for a few reasons. Firstly, Oxlade-Chamberlain just can’t catch a break – there always seems to be something around the corner that rules him out.

But it’s also just a massive shame because the midfielder is such a good player. Liverpool could really use him this season, especially if they look to push midfielders on further than ever. We expect they will, with Darwin Nunez not dropping as deep as other centre-forwards have.

We saw last season just how good Oxlade-Chamberlain can be in this side. Klopp labelled his performances ‘quality’ and we felt he was on his way to a new contract.

And that’s the big issue here. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract expires in 2023 and Liverpool won’t sell him this summer. His chances of earning a new contract look slim, though, if he’s battling a serious injury. The Englishman’s Anfield career appears to hang in the balance.
