Pre-season training at Liverpool is now underway. Several of Jurgen Klopp’s squad returned to the AXA Training Centre this afternoon to begin preparations for 2022/23.
Five weeks have passed since their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. Now, The Reds begin their quest for glory next season.
Amongst those returning was centre-back Joe Gomez. The 25-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Liverpool, but that didn’t stop him returning to training on Monday morning.
There have been reports that Aston Villa are ready to make Gomez their number one target. Despite that, the England international looked relaxed as he joked with Jordan Henderson in the gym.
New boys put through their paces at the AXA
Joining those more experienced faces at Liverpool today were new recruits Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho.
The two 19-year-old’s will be slowly eased in to life at Liverpool as they get to grips with the size of the club.
Neither will be expected to pull up any trees in their first season at Anfield. But hopes are high that in the future, they can be big players.
Return of the Ox
Elsewhere at the AXA Training Centre, there was also a return for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 28-year-old had at one stage looked certain to be out the door by now. But with Liverpool holding off on a new midfielder, he has been given another chance.
He had earlier outlined his readiness to give it his all in the final year of his contract.
As he joined his teammates in today’s gym session, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked completely focussed.
More returns to come
Also making their returns were Luis Diaz, Joel Matip, Harvey Elliott and James Milner.
With so many faces given an extended break by Jurgen Klopp, there were very limited number of players in action.
However, it looks as though there could have been two groups at the training facility today. With the likes of Thigao Alcantara, Roberto Firmino and Ibrahima Konate also expected back on Monday, we may well see some more pictures emerge.
