Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed that he’s ready for another season at Liverpool.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will return to Liverpool today as part of the first group beginning pre-season training. And sharing a post on his Instagram, the 28-year-old insisted that he’s itching to get going.
“Ready to get going again,” wrote Ox, accompanied some shots of him training whilst on holiday alongside Leicester City’s James Maddison.
Liverpool’s number 15 will report back to the AXA Training Centre in the hope of putting last season’s disappointing end to the season behind him.
Last chance saloon for Oxlade-Chamberlain
There had been an expectation at the end of last season that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time at Liverpool was over.
The midfielder had barely featured for Liverpool from March onwards, and looked like a prime candidate to be moved on.
Instead, it now appears as though Oxlade-Chamberlain will get a last chance to earn himself a new contract.
The England international’s current deal is set to come to an end this time next year. At this stage, it seems virtually impossible that his stay at Anfield will stretch beyond that. But that also seemed like being the case this summer.
Perhaps granted another chance due to Liverpool’s inability to land a new midfielder, Ox must ensure he gives it his all. If he can show himself to be a valuable option for Klopp, maybe all hope is not yet lost.
That would be some turnaround for Oxlade-Chamberlain. With five substitutes now available to Klopp across all competitions though, he could get more opportunities to impress.
It still seems mightily unlikely that this won’t be the £35m man’s last chance at Liverpool. If he has any ambition to turn that around, then it’s absolutely imperative that he hits the ground running in pre-season.
