Reported Liverpool transfer target Aurelien Tchouameni was last night named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season.
As posted by Ligue 1 English on Twitter, the midfielder claimed his spot after helping Monaco to the verge of Champions League qualification.
If reports are to be believed, it will be the 22-year-old’s final season in his homeland. Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea are rumoured to be in a three-way fight for his signature.
The news further underlines why Liverpool have seemingly identified Tchouameni as a target this summer.
Reds prepare for Tchouameni battle
By now, most Liverpool fans will be fully aware of Tchouameni and what he could offer Jurgen Klopp’s team.
They’ll also be aware that getting a deal done this summer won’t be the most straightforward task. As first reported by Footmercato back in April, Liverpool and Real Madrid are the firm favourites in the race to sign Tchouameni.
The story has developed slowly since then, with AS suggesting that Monaco would do business at around £60m.
Latest reports today from Footmercato claim that Real Madrid have made contact with Tchouameni. It ‘may be too late’ though, as Liverpool remain favourites.
Big money for a special player
The kind of money being mentioned is the kind of fee that Liverpool usually balk at, unless for a special player.
Should they go through with the transfer, it will show in just what esteem they hold the France international.
It has been reported that Liverpool are looking to revamp their midfield over the coming transfer windows. If not Tchouameni, they’ll reportedly look for someone similar.
Shelling out such a fee on a player who Paul Pogba called ‘extraordinary’ via Madein Foot would be a statement start to that.
There’s just two weeks of the season to come before we really head into the meatiness of the transfer window. Tchouameni’s situation has been slowly coming to the boil in the last few weeks.
If Liverpool can bring him in, they’ll be the envy of many-a-club across Europe.
