Liverpool have eyes on three free transfers in 2022, according to reports. The Reds can agree terms with the players from midnight tonight.
It’s not exactly a secret that Liverpool want value for money when it comes to their transfers. The Reds are far more likely to jump on a £7.25m bargain than pay £40m for a squad player.
So with that in mind, free transfers are always likely to appeal to Liverpool and they reportedly have their eyes on three for 2022. They could actually agree a pre-contract from midnight tonight, in fact – so here’s what fans should keep an eye out for.
Franck Kessie
Read our initial thoughts on Kessie here.
Italian outlet Ansa believes Liverpool have made a ‘very interesting offer’ to Franck Kessie. The Ivorian will almost certainly leave AC Milan this summer and there’s a lot to like about him.
We’ve mentioned in the past how Kessie could actually be an ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. Liverpool never actually signed one when the Dutchman left and here’s a wonderful chance to grab one without a transfer fee.
Kessie is still only 25, too, meaning you could conceivably get six or seven years out of him at the top level. The competition will be fierce but Liverpool could well go all-in on this one.
Denis Zakaria
Read our initial thoughts on the Zakaria reports here.
Gazzetta Dello Sport have previously mentioned interest from, as has Fabrizio Romano. Now Romano reports that two English clubs have made contact for Denis Zakaria.
Zakaria, much like Kessie, would add extra steel in midfield – steel that was lost with Wijnaldum’s exit. For that reason, we can’t imagine Liverpool move for both free transfers.
But both would be fantastic. Zakaria is a wonderful player in his own right, offering an all-around game and, again like Kessie, is still only 25. Liverpool could get a lot of football out of the Swiss midfielder if they pushed for this deal.
Ousmane Dembele
Read our initial thoughts on Dembele and his potential here.
Reports continue to grow that Ousmane Dembele will leave Barcelona at the end of the season. A dispute of wages appears set to provide an immovable obstacle in negotiations. That’s leading to several clubs linked with a free transfer, including Liverpool. 90min carries that story and it’s one that makes some sense.

Dembele still has tremendous potential and his versatility is off the charts. Liverpool could do a lot with the player – if he remained fit and continued to improve. Of course, the worry with the Frenchman is that he can’t do either, with injuries crippling his time at Barcelona.
Regardless, he’s one of the more interesting free transfer in 2022 and Liverpool almost certainly have eyes on the situation.
