Two English clubs have made contact with a reported Liverpool transfer target, says one journalist. Denis Zakaria will be a free agent this summer.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano. He claims that Denis Zakaria has told Borussia Monchengladbach that he will leave the club at the end of his contract.
The Swiss midfielder’s contract expires this summer, meaning clubs can start offering pre-contracts on January 1st. According to Romano, at least two English clubs are already in contact with Zakaria.
And it makes sense that one of those are Liverpool. Gazzetta Dello Sport have previously mentioned interest, as has Romano.
But those English clubs – Liverpool or not – aren’t the only ones interested here. Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona have apparently also made contact with Zakaria and co.
Could Liverpool look at Denis Zakaria transfer?
We’ve said before that Liverpool should look at Zakaria this winter and that waiting makes some sense. But there still is a chance of a January transfer here.
It’ll all depend on the competition for Zakaria’s signature. Teams will see this as a fantastic opportunity to secure a talented player without a transfer fee – and that will drive up that competition.

Gladbach, however, may well prefer to sell next month and secure any kind of fee at all for one of their best players. Sport Bild have mentioned £7m before and that would still be a bargain.
The question is how desperately Liverpool need Zakaria right now. In our mind, that desperation just isn’t there. The squad actually has plenty of midfielders right now and all of them are playing well, reducing any need to sign someone for this season.
For the summer, though, we’d like to see Liverpool in this discussion. Zakaria is a fantastic player and would improve the midfield without an up-front cost. Standing out in the crowd may be the only thing standing in their way.
