Liverpool’s young stars suffered defeat against Genk in the UEFA Youth League.
The Reds’ U19 side lost 1-0 courtesy of a goal from substitute Sam Krawczyk in the 93rd minute at the Academy in Kirkby on Tuesday.
This result leaves Barry Lewtas’s men in a three-way tie for top spot in Group E with seven points from four games.
Liverpool U19’s featured several players who helped the first team triumph in the Carabao Cup.
The Reds were without captain Curtis Jones, who was called up to Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.
The Liverpool youngsters will have been riding high after such a huge win at Anfield. They appeared to still have their head in the clouds during a lacklustre display against Genk’s youth side.
Lewtas’s team appeared to have escaped with a point before Genk scored with practically the last kick of the game.
The late loss has brought the Liverpool youngsters back down to earth with a bump. The Reds’ future stars must now buckle down and get back to their best football in youth football.
It is the performances for the Liverpool youth teams that will determine if or when they are involved in the first-team setup for the long haul.
