Liverpool defender Neco Williams will allegedly make his professional debut tonight. The 18-year-old right back has impressed staff whilst training with the first team at Melwood.
Jurgen Klopp will field a vastly changed Liverpool side against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. And according to Goal Williams will start at right-back and make his first senior appearance for the club.
The 18-year-old from Wrexham has been impressing for Neil Critchley’s U23 side.
Originally an attacking midfielder Williams has been with Liverpool since the age of eight. Since converting to right-back, the Wales U19 player has reached new heights. And he now looks set to make a well-earned debut due to the absence of Ki-Jana Hoever.
The Dutch U17 player impressed against MK Dons in the last round of the EFL Cup. But he is currently away from Merseyside on international duty with the Netherlands’ next generation.
Williams steps in and is expected to be just one of 11 changes at Anfield this evening. Liverpool prospects Caoimhin Kelleher, Sepp van der Berg, Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster are also expected to feature in Klopp’s team.
Others such as Curtis Jones, Leighton Clarkson, Luis Longstaff, Morgan Boyes and Billy Koumetio may also be involved in some capacity.
This is a huge night for Liverpool’s youth players, who can force their way into Klopp’s thinking with a busy Christmas period on the horizon.
