Wednesday night sees Liverpool face Arsenal in the League Cup. The fourth round tie will be played at Anfield and the Reds are expected to name a youthful side to face the gooners. Jürgen Klopp is set to hand starts to some of the brightest talents in the Reds ranks. If Harvey Elliott performs well he should get more first team minutes in future – his involvement could prove vital to the title challenge.
The third round of the League Cup saw Liverpool run out comfortable 2-0 winners against MK Dons. The Reds fielded a young team featuring the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Ki-Jana Hoever – the Dutch defender thumped in an impressive header for Liverpool’s second goal.
Harvey Elliott was incredibly impressive against the Dons. The 16 year old was electric on the ball, ghosting past defenders and demonstrating a keen eye for a pass. The former Fulham academy prospect is sure to have a bright future in the game – his breakthrough into the first team could come sooner rather than later.
If Elliott starts against Arsenal and puts in an impressive display, he could prove vital to our title challenge. As it stands, Jürgen Klopp has no backup for his wingers, only Divock Origi can fill in and he offers a completely different option to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
During a season when the Reds are competing on all fronts and could play a mammoth amount of games, we need to be able to rest our key players in order to keep them fully charged for vital games. If Harvey Elliott performs well against Arsenal he will have shown that he can play at the top level and can be trusted to fill in for the likes of Mane and Salah – this could be pivotal to our season.
