Iraola took over at Anfield in June 2026 as the Merseyside club responded to a poor season from predecessor Arne Slot, firing the Dutchman and replacing him with Iraola less than one week later.
Born in Usurbil, Spanish Basque country, Iraola took over after three eye-catching seasons with Bournemouth, guiding them to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League and the Europa League in 2025/26.
A former captain of Athletic Bilbao, Iraola arrived at Anfield promising a return to the front-footed, high-pressing style of Jurgen Klopp, with fans hoping to see a return to the Spaniard’s own version of ‘heavy metal football.’
