Liverpool absolutely should not listen to Robbie Fowler’s nonsense pick for Mo Salah’s replacement

Mohamed Salah’s exit from Liverpool has left the Reds looking to fill a huge void on the right of their attack this summer.

Thankfully, Liverpool look to have made their choice on a replacement already, with a mammoth deal to sign Yan Diomande firmly in their sights.

There is still a chance that Diomande does not join, however, leaving the door open for alternatives to be explored.

The Reds could reportedly target two forwards, two midfielders and a versatile defender…

Fans will have their own thoughts on who could be pursued instead, but while plenty of those suggestions may be valid, legendary striker Robbie Fowler‘s advice that Liverpool should look at Christian Pulisic can safely be dismissed.

Fowler wants Liverpool to consider Christian Pulisic

Pulisic has reinvigorated his career since leaving Chelsea for AC Milan in 2023, marking himself out as one of the Italian team’s main men.

Nevertheless, he scored only 10 goals last season, providing a meagre four assists as well. Though not terrible, these are not really the kind of numbers which are likely to excite many supporters.

Add in the fact that Pulisic will turn 28 in September, he only scored 15 times during his final three seasons with Chelsea – including a solitary goal in his last year in the Premier League – and the issue that he more regularly plays on the left, and it is easy to see why the American will not be on Liverpool’s radar.

According to Fowler, though, he really should be. Taking to X on Friday night, the Reds icon put Pulisic forward as his pick to replace Salah.

“Plenty of rumours about as to who’s going to LFC, one name I’ve not seen mentioned is Pulisic,” Fowler said.

“Good age, played in the prem, exciting player, I’d take him, potentially a Salah type of pathway, thoughts?”

Unfortunately for Fowler, not a single fan appears to have agreed with his take, with many urging him to rethink his comments.

No chance of Liverpool move for Pulisic

There isn’t really a single thing that suggests Pulisic is the right man to replace Salah at Liverpool this summer.

The USA captain might have some potential as a squad player, but even then, he has a somewhat patchy injury history and did not especially adapt well to the Premier League during his four years with Chelsea.

At one stage of his career it had felt inevitable that Pulisic would end up at Liverpool under his former manager at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp.

But after he joined Chelsea in 2019 that ship felt to have sailed, and Pulisic has not really done anything in the years since to make Liverpool regret not going for him.

Fowler clearly thinks differently, but, thankfully, the Reds are unlikely to be on the same page this time.
