Liverpool have been strengthening their youth options at centre-back in 2025 and 2026, with the signings of Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye.
There is still room for another arrival, though, with reports emerging recently that the Reds are keeping tabs on Lucas Herrington, an 18-year-old who plays for Colorado Rapids.
Herrington is at the World Cup with Australia, and after finally making his debut on Friday morning against Paraguay, the teenager showed exactly why Liverpool should be all over him.

The Reds could reportedly target two forwards, two midfielders and a versatile defender…
Herrington shines on World Cup debut
Australia qualified for the round of 32 on Friday with a 0-0 draw against Paraguay, with Herrington starring at the heart of the Socceroos defence.
“The age didn’t matter to us. He deserved to play, he was ready to play,” manager Tony Popovic said of the young defender.
“He’s probably frustrated he didn’t get minutes against the US, which I love to see – and today he was outstanding. He is a special talent, it’s why he was selected in the squad, not to just make up the numbers.
“And again, we trusted this talented young man in the most important game of the three.”

Liverpool should take note of Herrington display
Herrington deserved his praise. Having put in two tackles, made four clearances and executed one interception, the Rapids defender stood firm against Paraguay.
He won two of his three ground duels, two of four aerial duels and looked extremely composed in possession, registering 90% passing accuracy.
Though Barcelona were already rumoured to be looking closely at Herrington, and even had a bid rejected for him, his performance will surely only heighten interest in him from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
As Australia head into the last 32, and Herrington’s importance in the XI grows, Liverpool should get themselves in early and make a strong pitch to him.
If they do not, it will only be a matter of time before somebody else convinces him, and the Reds lose out.
