Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch 18-year-old centre-back Lucas Herrington, who is currently at the World Cup with Australia.

The Reds have been bolstering their youth prospects in defence over recent months, with Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye all arriving since 2025.

And according to The Athletic, Liverpool also have an eye on adding Herrington to the mix.

Liverpool keeping tabs on Lucas Herrington

Australia have started the World Cup as a potential surprise package, beating Turkey 2-0 in a shock opening day win.

Although they lost by the same scoreline against the USA on Friday, they are still in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages.

So far, Herrington has not played at all, but that has not stopped him from being a focus for Liverpool.

The Athletic claim that the Reds have sent scouts to watch Herrington playing for the Colorado Rapids this season, and he is seen as a player who could ‘easily’ transfer his skills to the Premier League.

Only 18, Herrington is reportedly seen as being ‘one of the best young centre-backs in the world,’ and has even been subject to a bid from Barcelona.

That bid did not reach the Rapids’ valuation of the defender and was promptly rejected, and it is claimed that negotiations are no longer active between Barca and the MLS side.

As a result, the door could be open for Liverpool, who are the only other named side currently in the mix for Herrington.

Another one to watch at the World Cup as Australia aim for the knockout rounds.
