Trey Nyoni was not afforded much game time in the 2025/26 season despite impressing in his limited cameos.

Rio Ngumoha may be the obvious standout talent emerging at Anfield right now, but the young central midfielder is also another to keep an eye on.

Arne Slot did not give Nyoni much of a chance in the first team, but it is now thought that the Englishman will have time in pre-season to prove himself to Andoni Iraola before a decision is made regarding his future.

Trey Nyoni to get a chance under Andoni Iraola in pre-season

Despite featuring in the Premier League on six occasions last term, the 18-year-old only notched a total of 18 minutes of action during 2025/26 in the league.

In turn, it would make sense for Liverpool to sanction a move this summer so he can go out and garner some much-needed senior experience during a crucial stage in his development.

But an update from The Athletic this week suggests that the midfielder could still be playing at Anfield at the start of 2026/27 if he is able to prove himself.

It is reported: “Trey Nyoni is attracting plenty of interest from teams in the Championship and across Europe and is likely to go out on loan, but no final decision will be taken until later in the summer with the 18-year-old midfielder set to be given the chance to impress new head coach Andoni Iraola in pre-season.”

Liverpool’s midfield was a real problem area last season, and changes probably need to be made this summer.

Alexis Mac Allister’s future is up in the air, while Curtis Jones continues to be linked with an exit amid interest from Inter Milan.

That would leave the Merseyside outfit very short of options in the centre of the park, which may open the door for Nyoni.

However, the likes of Adam Wharton and Alex Scott are linked to Liverpool this summer, and both would almost certainly start ahead of the teenager.
