Curtis Jones’ Liverpool future remains up in the air despite Arne Slot’s sacking last month.

Slot was not starting Jones regularly as a midfielder last season, and in turn, strong links to Inter Milan emerged.

But despite Andoni Iraola now taking over from the Dutchman in the Anfield dugout, Jones still thinks he could be replaced in midfield by Adam Wharton or Alex Scott.

Curtis Jones thinks Liverpool will sign Adam Wharton or Alex Scott

Wharton has been called a ‘dream’ target for the Merseyside outfit, carrying a reported price tag of £80m.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s links to Bournemouth midfielder Scott began to intensify after former Cherries boss Iraola was appointed.

Now, journalist Marco Barzaghi has shared that Jones thinks Liverpool will end up signing one of the aforementioned Premier League midfielders.

He said: “Jones expects Liverpool to move for targets such as Wharton or Scott who already knows Iraola.

“Inter’s offer is €20 million, while Liverpool’s asking price is €30 million; there is still a gap between the two sides.”

Liverpool still need Curtis Jones

Regardless of whether or not Liverpool sign Wharton, Scott or another midfielder this summer, losing Jones means the Reds will be just as short of options in the centre of the park next term.

Despite playing poorly for large periods, Alexis Mac Allister featured in the majority of games last season.

Elsewhere, Dominik Szoboszlai had to spend most of 2025/26 at right-back due to problems in that area.

So, unless Liverpool sign a new right-back this summer, which they are not being tipped to do at present, Jones will still be needed as central midfield cover alongside Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and a new addition.

However, the Englishman may well decide he does not want to be a rotation option and could force a move to someone like Inter.
