Victor Munoz has become Liverpool’s first official signing of the 2026 transfer window.
The Spaniard arrives with very little senior experience to his name, having played only one full season in La Liga.
Now, one expert from the Spanish top flight has highlighted that Munoz’s passing ability is a weakness.
How excited are you by Liverpool’s surprise signing of Victor Munoz?
And what do you think his role will be next season? Is he an immediate starter?
Victor Munoz passing questioned ahead of Liverpool arrival
As quoted by BBC Sport, La Liga expert Phil Minshull said: “He [Munoz] is an outstanding young talent. He’s one of the pearls of Spanish football.
“He’s a very strong, right-footed attacking winger. He can play both sides. He’s very robust. Very physical. He challenges defenders.
“One question mark over his technical abilities is his passing as he only got two assists in the whole of last season. But he does take on defenders, and he provides all sorts of challenges for them pulling players in his direction and opening up space for the other forwards.
“He can play either side of the park and that makes him a valuable asset depending on the resources of the rest of the team.
“Also, he’s always tracking back and he’s a strong tackler so he’s supporting the defenders as well. There’s no question marks over his work rate.”
Weak passing is not something Liverpool really want from their wingers, especially given their current full-backs.
Previously, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson provided the bulk of the Reds’ assists.
But both defenders have now left the club, and there is more pressure on the actual forwards to create chances.
Cody Gakpo was never great at doing so, instead preferring to cut inside and shoot most of the time when he got the ball around the opposition box.
Munoz being similarly weak in that area could be an issue, but he is still relatively young, and that will hopefully be an area where Andoni Iraola, who was involved in the signing, can improve over the summer.
For now, though, Liverpool will be monitoring the winger’s latest injury closely. He has picked up a muscle problem at the World Cup and it is unclear when he will return to fitness.
