Florian Wirtz has endured a mixed 12 months since swapping Bayer Leverkusen for Liverpool, but he has managed to maintain his transfer value.
The German arrived at Anfield during the 2025 summer transfer window for around £116m, a transfer fee many would argue he did not live up to last term.
However, CIES Football Observatory have now released a list showing the squad value of every nation competing at the World Cup, and their most valuable players, with Wirtz given a valuation of €124m.
Which Liverpool player do you think will have the BEST World Cup? 🔮
Florian Wirtz given €124m transfer value
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given their squad is primarily made up of Premier League players, England have the most valuable team at the 2026 World Cup (€1.454bn), followed by France (€1.436bn) and Spain (€1.407bn)
Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is the Three Lions’ most valuable player (€137m), while Wirtz’s Germany take fourth place with a total squad value of €1.085bn.
The data also shows who each nation’s most valuable player is in order, and there are no prizes for guessing that Spain’s Lamine Yamal (€358m) takes first place.
The remainder of the top ten is as follows:
- 2: Erling Haaland (Norway, €227m)
- 3: Kylian Mbappe (France, €166m)
- 4: Morgan Rogers (England, €137m)
- 5: Kenan Yildiz (Turkey, €133m)
- 6: Florian Wirtz (Germany, €124m)
- 7: Yan Diomande (Ivory Coast, €119m)
- 8: Joao Neves (Portugal, €117m)
- 9: Julian Alvarez (Argentina, €110m)
- 10: Ryan Gravenberch (Netherlands, €107m)
Which ONE player from the 2026 World Cup would you love to see Liverpool sign? ➡️✅
It’s somewhat surprising to see that Liverpool’s Wirtz has managed to keep his transfer valuation above the £100m mark.
He scored five and assisted four in the Premier League last season, which wasn’t terrible but perhaps not what many expected from him after his huge move last year.
Meanwhile, Liverpool target Yan Diomande also cracked the top-10 despite only playing in the Bundesliga to date.
Barring Wirtz and Gravenberch, no other Reds players have been named as their country’s most valuable player at the World Cup.
