Liverpool have taken a positive step in their pursuit of Yan Diomande, with contact now made with RB Leipzig over the winger.
The 19-year-old is the biggest name linked with the Reds so far this summer as they search for a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement. PSG are also firmly in the race, while RB Leipzig have been hoping to keep Diomande for at least another season and potentially tie him down to improved terms.
There have been mixed messages from the player’s side too. Diomande has previously spoken warmly about Liverpool, but his latest comments on PSG made it clear the French champions also have a personal pull. Even so, this update suggests the Reds are very much alive in the race.

Liverpool have made contact with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande
David Ornstein has now delivered a positive update, claiming Liverpool have moved to the next stage in their pursuit of Diomande.
Taking to X, Ornstein wrote: “Liverpool have made contact with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande.”
He added that the Reds are in the ‘strongest position’ for the 19-year-old, and while PSG remain in the picture, their interest is ‘less advanced’. Leipzig are expected to demand a huge fee if they do agree to sell.
Salah’s departure leaves a huge gap on the right, and Diomande fits the profile of a player who could grow fully into that role rather than simply patch it for a year.

Jurgen Klopp and others in the Red Bull setup are said to believe Diomande could stay at Leipzig and sign a new deal.
But Liverpool making club-to-club contact is a step in the right direction. If they can convince the player, this could be one of the biggest deals of the summer.
