Liverpool supporters are right behind a potential move to bring Darwin Nunez back to Anfield on a free transfer this summer.

Sunday brought claims that Nunez is keen on a reunion with the Reds after falling out with Al Hilal last season.

The Uruguayan could reportedly leave the Saudi club on a free transfer, and when Rousing The Kop asked fans for their opinions on Nunez coming back, there was an overwhelmingly positive response to seeing what he could do under the stewardship of Andoni Iraola.

What are your thoughts on a possible return to Liverpool for Nunez?

Fans want to see Nunez work with Iraola

Although he had plenty of struggles during his three years with Liverpool, Nunez remains a popular figure with the fanbase one year on from his £46m sale.

His popularity is such that supporters have seemingly forgotten his wastefulness in front of goal, and would like to see him come back to add depth and passion to a Liverpool squad which currently has neither.

“I actually think it would be a short term good move,” one supporter said on RTK‘s X page. “Knows the club. Loved the fans. Runs and works hard. Just get Rush and Fowler to work with him on finishing and he could be a good addition to the squad.”

“I wouldn’t see the issue for a 12 month loan/deal whilst Hugo recovers,” someone else said. “Think he’d fit in in terms of a bit of pace, aggression, chaos.”

“All things considered, if the salary was acceptable, I would. We need depth and energy and he would bring those two things at the least,” was another verdict.

“With Slot? No. With Iraola? Yes,” one more fan weighed in. “There are going to be games where you need his engine and physicality. And you never know when good Darwin comes off the bench for a brace away.”

“Heavy metal football would suit Nunez,” another said on RTK’s Facebook page. “And with Ekitike injured, Nunez on a free would be ideal.”

“Definitely have him back all day. l believe lraola can do wonders with him,” was one more comment, which neatly summed up what appears to be a general mood within the fanbase.

Some supporters still not sure on Nunez

While a surprisingly vast majority of fans seem to be in favour of Nunez coming back to Liverpool, there were still some dissenting voices, who largely pointed out the fact that he never consistently delivered across three years with the Reds.

“Step backwards, passionate 100%, good enough? Nope, his missed chances were horrible,” said one supporter.

“This would feel great until the first one on one he puts into 306 closely followed by the second one he puts out for a throw,” another argued.

Despite the reluctance of some, it is clear to see that Liverpool fans are being sold some dreams on Nunez once again. With a need to bulk up their attack and a low-cost, low-risk move a possibility, there are certainly worse options out there for Iraola.
