Liverpool parted ways with Jurgen Klopp in 2024, and their fortunes have been very mixed in the two years since.
The Reds won the Premier League under Arne Slot in 2024/25, but 12 months on, they have sacked the Dutchman after a very poor 2025/26 campaign that saw them lose 12 Premier League games.
Some fans wanted to see Klopp return to the club to replace Slot, but the German has no plans to take any managerial role in the future apart from possibly stepping up to coach his country’s national team.

Jurgen Klopp only has eyes for the German national team
After Xabi Alonso left Real Madrid earlier in 2026, Klopp was linked to Los Blancos.
That move was quickly shut down, though, and Jose Mourinho is now expected to return to Spain.
Meanwhile, Florian Plettenberg has now shared an update on Klopp’s stance when it comes to management after speaking to his agent.
Speaking via X/Twitter, he stated: “Jurgen Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke tells me about the latest comments from Enrique Riquelme: ‘It’s annoying! Jürgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a coach at a club.’
“Real Madrid chapter is currently closed for him, especially in the current situation and surrounding circumstances. The one job that is particularly appealing to him in the future is the Germany national team.”

Jurgen Klopp may have helped Liverpool get Andoni Iraola
While Klopp may have no intention of returning to Liverpool, or any other club, there is talk that he played a role in appointing Iraola as Slot’s successor.
Speaking last week, Jan Age Fjortoft said: “Everybody says that Iraola is the big favourite.
“I just got back from Germany today, there was talk that they’ve asked Jurgen Klopp for advice who could be the new Liverpool coach, that makes sense as well.
“The big wet dream for any Liverpool fan is to get Klopp back, but I can’t see that happening. But I do understand that Iraola will play with the cards he’s got.”
Iraola certainly has a style that is much more similar to Klopp than Slot, so it is easy to see why Liverpool have now turned to the former Bournemouth coach.
But it remains to be seen if the Spaniard can, after such a disappointing 2025/26, get fans back on side in the coming months.
