Liverpool fans decide they want Jurgen Klopp, not Xabi Alonso, next season

Liverpool supporters would prefer to see a return for Jurgen Klopp, rather than Xabi Alonso, if Arne Slot is sacked this summer.

Alonso appears to be the favourite to take over if Slot is relieved of his duties, with pressure ramping up on the Dutchman after Sunday’s disappointing draw with Tottenham.

However, when Rousing The Kop asked fans to pick between their former midfielder or Klopp on TalkingPoints, the Premier League title-winning boss was an overwhelming winner.

Klopp wins next manager vote with landslide result

Although it seems unlikely that Klopp would come back as Liverpool manager, the German has previously said that he would not rule out what would be a sensational return.

Fans would certainly be happy to see him back at Anfield, with a whopping 71% picking Klopp over Alonso in our RTK poll.

Faced with Slot’s dull, lifeless football, supporters are clearly pining to watch their former manager’s ‘heavy metal’ style approach.

The debate spilled over onto RTK‘s Facebook page, where fans were arguably a little more split in picking between Klopp and Alonso, but the legendary 57-year-old was still the clear favourite.

Some threw other names into the mix as well, with PSG boss Luis Enrique garnering some support.

Three-time Champions League winner Zinedine Zidane was also mentioned, although it seems highly unlikely that the Frenchman would be considered should Slot go.

Sadly for those fans desperate to see Klopp back at the helm, it seems an equally improbable turn of events.

Instead, a straight shootout between Slot staying and Alonso making a return after 16 years feels much more likely.
