Ibrahima Konate is currently on course to leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of June alongside Andy Robertson.

Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate both keen on new contract

Lewis Steele provided an update on the Frenchman when speaking to Anfield Index’s YouTube channel this week.

When doing so, he questioned why the contract negotiations were taking so long, suggesting other clubs could have done a deal much more quickly than Liverpool.

Steele said: “As far as I understand it, Konate wants to stay and Liverpool want him to stay, and there’s just a few final details that have provided a little bit of a stumbling block, maybe, and they just need to be ironed out.

“But how long does that take? I don’t understand why all of these contract renewals take 100 times longer for Liverpool than they seem to do for any other club. It’s bizarre.”

Liverpool face European competition for Ibrahima Konate

While a deal is thought to be still on the cards, Liverpool do not have long to agree a deal.

The World Cup is just two weeks away and Konate is expected to be busy with France once the tournament gets underway.
