Liverpool have not been good enough this season, but that does not mean there have been no bright spots along the way.
Even in a campaign defined by frustration, injuries and a lack of rhythm under Arne Slot, a handful of players have still produced genuinely outstanding individual performances.
Some came in big games, some came in rare comfortable wins, and some were defined more by the moment than the full 90 minutes. With the season almost over, these are the five Liverpool displays that stand out above the rest.
Would you accept Liverpool playing like Arsenal if it meant winning the Premier League next season?
Arteta-ball isn't easy on the eye, despite what he might claim 👀
5. Dominik Szoboszlai vs Arsenal, 1-0, August 31st
Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season, so he had to feature somewhere on this list.
There may have been cleaner individual displays from him, but the context makes this one special. Against Arsenal, the eventual champions, Szoboszlai played at right-back and still won the game with a stunning late free-kick.

That performance summed up the best of him this season. He has given more to the team than anyone, covering gaps, doing uncomfortable jobs and still finding moments of real quality.
4. Virgil van Dijk vs Everton, 2-1, April 19th
This was not an extraordinary Van Dijk performance for 99 minutes. Then the 100th minute happened.
The first Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium looked set to end in frustration for Liverpool, before Van Dijk rose with the final meaningful touch of the game to head in a dramatic winner.
It was a rare moment of pure elation in a season that has offered far too few of them.
Liverpool desperately needed three points at that stage, and their captain stood tall when it mattered most.

3. Hugo Ekitike vs Newcastle, 4-1, January 31st
Ekitike had to make the list, and his display against Newcastle was the obvious choice.
This was his most prolific performance of the season, and it came in one of Liverpool’s most impressive league wins.
The Reds had fallen behind to Anthony Gordon’s opener, but Ekitike turned the game around before half-time.
His first was a sharp close-range finish after brilliant work from Florian Wirtz. His second came just two minutes later, latching onto Milos Kerkez’s pass before producing a Torres-esque outside-of-the-foot strike past Nick Pope.
It was the kind of striker’s performance Liverpool signed him for, and it wasn’t just him who impressed that night.

2. Florian Wirtz vs Newcastle, 4-1, January 31st
Wirtz gets ahead of Ekitike for his performance on that very same night. Against Newcastle, the potential of that duo was on full display.
Wirtz created Ekitike’s equaliser with brilliant footwork and a cutback, then scored Liverpool’s third with a composed first-time finish after linking with Mohamed Salah.
It was not just the goal and assist, either. Wirtz looked sharp, brave and involved throughout, playing with the confidence that has not always been there during his debut season.
On that night anyway, he looked like the player Liverpool thought they were getting.
1. Alexis Mac Allister vs Qarabag, 6-0, January 28th
Mac Allister has not had a great season by his standards, but against Qarabag, he looked like himself again.
The Argentinian opened the scoring with a back-post header from a corner, setting Liverpool on their way to a rare stress-free night. He then added his second after reacting quickest to a loose ball and rounding the goalkeeper.
Which Liverpool players SHOULD be playing their last game for the club vs Brentford?
Robertson and Salah are going, but there are a fair few who could be joining them…
It was more than just the goals, though. Mac Allister controlled the game, moved the ball with purpose and played with the authority Liverpool have missed from him too often this season.
In a difficult campaign, this was the clearest reminder of what he looks like at his best. That this is the standout display of the season says a lot about where Liverpool are right now.
