Jermaine Pennant has decided who should replace Arne Slot at Liverpool at the end of the season.

The former Reds winger has been one of many strong critics of the Dutchman in recent months, with pressure growing after another damaging defeat against Aston Villa.

Pennant questioned Slot’s position again after that result, making it clear that he believes Liverpool can do better if they decide to make a change. Specifically, he thinks Andoni Iraola could be the answer, with the Bournemouth boss on the market and seemingly ready for a bigger job.

Is Andoni Iraola the right man to replace Arne Slot this summer? 🤔

Jermaine Pennant explains why Andoni Iraola is the ideal Arne Slot replacement

Iraola is preparing to leave Bournemouth after the most successful season in the club’s history.

Before he goes, he could still have a big influence on our campaign. There is even a scenario where Liverpool and Bournemouth need a play-off to decide who qualifies for the Champions League next season.

But beyond this weekend, Pennant thinks the Spaniard could solve plenty of Liverpool’s problems.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Yeah, what he’s done for Bournemouth is great. You know, and I’m sure if he had some better players at his disposal, maybe he would get a tune out of them.

“Because like I said, you watch Bournemouth, they went to Arsenal. They didn’t look like they were scared They were in their faces, made it difficult and came away with the three points. And that’s what you need to be when you’re a big team.”

Liverpool have looked passive too often under Slot this season, and especially against top Premier League sides. The intensity and belief that once defined them has disappeared in too many big games.

Iraola’s Bournemouth have not had that issue. They press, run, compete and play without fear, even against stronger opponents.

There would obviously be risk. Managing Bournemouth and managing Liverpool are not the same thing, and Iraola would be stepping into a much harsher spotlight at Anfield.

But the footballing fit is obvious. Liverpool need energy, structure and personality again. Iraola has shown he can build all three.

The problem is that a manager of that quality will not stay on the market for long. If Liverpool are seriously considering life after Slot, they cannot afford to wait forever.
