Four questions Arne Slot needs to be asked during his final Liverpool press conference of the season

Arne Slot will face the media for the final time on Friday morning ahead of Liverpool’s last Premier League game of the season.

The match itself is significant, with Brentford coming to Anfield as one of the stories of the campaign, still competing for a European place under Keith Andrews despite tailing off slightly in recent weeks.

But the game will not be the main talking point in Slot’s press conference. That will be the Mohamed Salah spectacle that has unfolded since the Aston Villa defeat, as well as summer intentions and what next season looks like with Slot still at the helm.

A sour end could be in store…

Here are four questions that should be put to the Dutchman.

The Salah vs Slot situation

This will surely be the first question asked.

Slot is unlikely to say whether Salah will start against Brentford, and he will almost certainly avoid escalating the situation.

But how he handles the inevitable questions about the Egyptian, his criticism and the atmosphere inside the dressing room could be very telling.

The plan with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool signed two attack-minded full-backs last summer, and the idea did not make total sense at the time.

After a full season of watching Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong struggle for rhythm, it makes even less sense now.

Slot needs to explain the tactical vision behind having two high-flying wing-backs making up half of the back line.

Something surely has to change next season, whether that is the system itself or another signing on one side of the defence.

What Slot thinks is missing from Liverpool midfield

A new midfielder should be high on Liverpool’s transfer to-do list. In truth, it should have been addressed over the last two windows.

Different accounts have circulated about what Liverpool actually want. Is it an Adam Wharton type, someone silky and progressive, or more of an Eduardo Camavinga profile, physical, defensive and dynamic?

Slot surely has a say in the construction of his midfield, so he should be asked directly.

What success looks like for Liverpool next season

To wrap up the final press conference of the season, Slot should be asked about expectations for next year with him still in charge.

The easy response is that Liverpool should always compete for trophies. The follow-up should be about how he plans to make that happen.

That would give supporters a map back to success, and a standard to hold the manager to next season.

If the team are falling well short of his own expectations by October or November, he can have few complaints if his position comes under serious threat.
