Most of the attention around Liverpool has been on Mohamed Salah’s explosive statement and the growing pressure around Arne Slot, but there is still plenty happening in the background.
Bradley Barcola remains a name to watch, though there is one obvious concern linked to Rio Ngumoha’s development. Joe Gomez’s future is also back under the spotlight, while Cesc Fabregas appears unlikely to become available despite the disappointment of Xabi Alonso heading to Chelsea.
There is also movement in Liverpool’s coaching department, with one familiar Slot target seemingly close to a move abroad.
You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?
Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…
Liverpool transfer news
Liverpool continue to be linked with Barcola, but there is one nagging doubt around any potential move for the PSG winger.
Barcola would arrive in an area where Rio Ngumoha is emerging quickly. The 17-year-old needs a pathway, and signing another high-profile left-sided attacker could make that more complicated.
Fabregas also looks unlikely to become an option this summer. After Alonso’s Chelsea move, some supporters have naturally looked at other young coaches who could replace Slot if the club changed direction.

However, the latest update makes clear that the Spaniard is not expected to leave Como. Fabrizio Romano claims Fabregas has chosen that project with conviction and is already working on plans for next season. That leaves Liverpool with one fewer obvious alternative if the Slot situation changes.
Gomez’s Liverpool future is once again in doubt. The long-serving defender came close to leaving last summer, and the latest update suggests his camp has now made contact with clubs ahead of another possible exit. AC Milan are seen as the most likely destination, having explored a deal before.
FSG may be tempted to listen if an attractive proposal arrives, but letting Gomez go would still be a risk. With so much experience already expected to leave, another senior departure could leave the squad looking thin.
What did you make of Salah’s explosive statement before his last game for the club?
This sounds like it was aimed at Slot…
There could also be a change to Slot’s coaching staff. The latest Etienne Reijnen claims from the Netherlands suggest the Feyenoord assistant is set to move abroad, with Liverpool favoured to acquire his services.
Slot wanted Reijnen when he first arrived at Anfield, only for work permit issues to block the move. If the Reds finally land him now, it would suggest Slot is being allowed to build the backroom team he wanted from the star — a revelation that will get mixed reactions from fans.
