Joe Gomez’s agents are reportedly reaching out to clubs to begin discussions over a summer exit from Liverpool.

The 28-year-old came close to leaving the Reds after a decade last year, but with Liverpool unable to get a deadline day deal for Marc Guehi over the line, a move to AC Milan fell through.

Having stayed for an 11th year at Anfield, Gomez still has one year left on his contract. But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the defender is once again eyeing up a move to Milan, with preliminary talks already underway.

Milan register early interest in Gomez

Gomez has been felt to be on the verge of leaving Liverpool every summer for the past two or three years.

Injuries have meant that he has been unable to command a place in the regular XI for some time, and a departure has often felt to be inevitable.

With so many experienced leaders already slated to leave this summer, though, it may be unwise for Liverpool to let Gomez go as well. Nevertheless, speaking on his Italian language YouTube channel, Romano says that it may well happen.

“In recent days AC Milan have received information from those in charge of Joe Gomez’s future, and I can confirm that the player could be a transfer opportunity this summer,” he says.

“Milan had been very close to Joe Gomez in the last few days of the 2025 summer transfer window, and there had even been some fairly in-depth discussions. Then it happened that Liverpool were closing the deal of Marc Guehi but there was the problem of putting things together.

“Milan never got close [to Gomez] in January because Liverpool had so many injuries,” Romano adds. “So, releasing a player like Joe Gomez would have made little sense. Summer is another world.

“Liverpool will have new reinforcements, there will be new evaluations and Gomez could be a player considered to be on the market in case of attractive proposals. There are several teams interested. Milan, like other teams in the Premier League, have been informed of this possibility.”

With so much churn already likely to happen in Liverpool’s defence, fans would be disappointed to see Gomez leave. However, having given the Reds so many years of brilliant service, few could begrudge him a chance of a starting spot at a club like Milan.
