Mohamed Salah’s explosive comments about Arne Slot have now been addressed by Gary Lineker in the aftermath of a big weekend at Liverpool.
Salah spoke out after the Aston Villa game, leaving the debate around his future and Slot’s authority to dominate the final stretch of the season.
Some pundits have sided with Salah, arguing that senior players are entitled to demand more from the club. Others see it as an unnecessary and damaging challenge to the manager at a time when Liverpool need stability.
What did you make of Salah’s explosive statement before his last game for the club?
This sounds like it was aimed at Slot…
Lineker and Alan Shearer are the latest to dissect the drama, with Lineker suggesting there may have been an ulterior motive behind the Egyptian’s statement.
Gary Lineker suggests Mo Salah statement is self-serving
Salah is one of Liverpool’s true greats, so it makes sense that he wants to maintain the standards at a club where he has won it all.
But doing so a week out from the season’s end feels like more than an obligation to the truth.
Speaking about the situation, Shearer argued that Salah had picked the wrong moment to go public with his frustration.
He told Lineker on The Rest Is Football: “There’s a time and a place in I don’t think that was the right time. He hasn’t he hasn’t exactly been brilliant this season either, Mo Salah, has he?”
Lineker then suggested that Salah may have been trying to protect his own image by pointing towards the way Liverpool have played under Slot.

He said: “No. And he’s probably covered himself a little bit by saying that’s that’s why, because the way they’ve played, I suppose, but it’s not ideal.”
Salah’s status means his words carry enormous weight. The Dutchman is already under pressure after a disappointing campaign, and a public challenge from the club’s biggest name only makes the situation harder to manage.
Lineker also suggested that the entire episode has left a sour feeling around Salah’s exit, and could make the Slot decision that bit more tricky.
“So, yeah, it’s a sort of sad departure as well in a way,” he added. “Yeah. a bit disappointing because he’s contributed so much to Liverpool for such a long time.
“As for Slot I mean all the intimations were that he was he was they were going to stick with him this I don’t know whether that will change.”
Should Arne Slot drop Mohamed Salah from the squad to face Brentford? 👀
A sour end could be in store…
This is a debate set to rage on for the rest of the season. Only Salah knows his true intentions, but whatever they were, he has put Slot in a very tough spot heading into the summer.
