Simon Jordan gives Arne Slot two tasks to complete if he wants to keep Liverpool job

Arne Slot’s Liverpool position is under the microscope as we enter the final two weeks of the Premier League season.

The weekend saw plenty of Liverpool fans turn on Slot, but the truth is that many have been low on the Dutchman for months. The mood around Anfield has shifted dramatically from where it was after last season’s Premier League title win.

As it stands, it looks like Slot will stay, pending the club’s end-of-season review. That may not help his case with supporters, but Simon Jordan believes there is still time for him to curry favour.

Simon Jordan sets challenge for Arne Slot against Aston Villa and Brentford

Liverpool have 180 minutes of Premier League football left this season, and they are not gentle fixtures. The Reds travel to Villa Park on Friday night before hosting Brentford on the final day at Anfield.

Villa are direct rivals in the race for Champions League football, while Brentford still have European ambitions of their own.

If Slot wants to keep the pitchforks from coming out over the summer, his task is simple. He needs to win both games and change the feeling around Liverpool before the season ends.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said: “I think he has the currency and it should be right, he has the currency to have won the Premier League and should be given an opportunity to correct the malaise that he, in part, has created.

“One of the ways to do it is to smash Aston Villa and make sure they don’t take your place because you’ve got them coming up next. And to beat Brentford at home, send the season off with a happy ending so that you’re in the Champions League and they can’t have that stick to bash you with.”

These are not easy games. Villa have beaten Man City, Arsenal and United at Villa Park this season, so Liverpool should know exactly what kind of test is waiting for them.

Brentford have also caused major problems for big sides. They have beaten Manchester United and Liverpool this season, while also holding Arsenal to a draw.

So, Jordan is not asking Slot to stroll through two routine matches. He is asking him to prove Liverpool can still deliver when pressure is attached.

Two convincing wins would not erase the problems of this season, but they would paint Slot in a somewhat different light heading into the summer. Failing to deliver could make this a very tense few months at Anfield.
