Kylian Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, but there are growing concerns in Real Madrid around the Frenchman, and it could give Liverpool an irresistible transfer opportunity.
The last two seasons at the Bernabeu have fallen short of Madrid’s insanely high standards. When Mbappe chose that move, it looked like it couldn’t fail.
But early exits from Europe and falling off the pace in La Liga have created a tense environment. That’s according to The Athletic, who report ‘internal criticism’ of his attitude and confrontations with staff.
If his time in the Spanish capital is to come to a premature end, Liverpool might be in the strongest position of any club to sign him.

Liverpool is the best destination left in Europe for Kylian Mbappe
It seems fanciful to imagine a player of that calibre being available on the market, but the indications from Madrid don’t paint a very settled picture.
Liverpool pursued Mbappe quite heavily during his PSG days, even going as far as to agree terms on a £170 million move in 2022, before he extended his contract in Paris. He has spoken positively about Liverpool.
There’s also the personal ties between the player and Anfield — his mother is a huge Liverpool fan.
Madrid won’t want to see Mbappe leave this soon, but if the relationships at the club continue to sour, the club could lose patience. In that event, you’d have to put Liverpool in the driver’s seat to win the race for his services.
There’s not that many clubs who could afford this move, but the balance sheets suggest Liverpool are one. He wouldn’t go back to PSG, it’s hard to see him switching to Barcelona, and Bayern Munich have no room for a starting calibre attacker right now.
FSG are very much in the market for a high-profile forward signing. The fee required for Mbappe would likely be a new British transfer record, but wouldn’t that be the best Mo Salah replacement you could find?

Rumours of discontent at the Bernabeu 👀
At 27, he has years left at the top level. This wouldn’t have even been a consideration in normal circumstances, but the volatile situation at Madrid could open the door to a sensational sale.
That’s especially true if the next manager has similar issues with the Frenchman.
