Liverpool have identified Borussia Dortmund star as the ‘perfect fit’ to challenge Milos Kerkez at left-back

Liverpool have a question to answer at left-back this summer as they prepare for Andy Robertson to close his book with the club.

Robertson arguably cemented himself as the Reds’ best ever left full-back during his nine years at Anfield, but having lost his place to Milos Kerkez this season, he will depart on a free transfer.

Though Kerkez is firmly installed as Arne Slot’s first-choice, that leaves a vacancy open as his deputy ahead of next season. While there have been suggestions that Kostas Tsimikas could return from his loan spell, German outlet Fussballdaten claim that Borussia Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson could be signed instead.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Liverpool identify Daniel Svensson as ideal left-back addition

Liverpool were linked with Svensson before he joined Dortmund in 2025. Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to become a key player at Westfalenstadion.

But having nailed down his position as Niko Kovac’s first-choice left-back, Svensson is reportedly drawing admiring glances from across Europe.

Liverpool are said to be one of the clubs firmly in the mix for the Swede, with his ‘physicality and pressing ability’ claimed to be the ‘perfect fit’ for Arne Slot.

His profile has reportedly made Svensson a ‘top target to rejuvenate their defence and increase competition at left-back.’

Dortmund name asking-price as Premier League move predicted

If Liverpool are to look at bringing in another left-back this summer, it seems unlikely that they would pay much of a fee to do it.

That might rule Svensson out, unfortunately, with Fussballdaten claiming that Dortmund would ‘open the door’ at £30m, but could ultimately demand up to £35m.

This may throw a move to Liverpool into jeopardy, but with Arsenal, Leeds United, Inter, AC Milan and Atalanta all said to be tracking Svensson as well, a move is reportedly on the cards regardless.

How confident do you feel in Freddie Woodman starting against Man United?

The ‘highest probability’ is indeed said to be that the Sweden international ends up in England, with Liverpool and Arsenal named as the most likely destinations.

Svensson reportedly has a dream of playing in the Premier League, and it’s claimed that it would be ‘no surprise’ if he ended up joining the Reds or the Gunners this summer.

Dortmund will seemingly want to extract maximum value from a player they signed for less than £6m barely one year ago, but with a relatively high asking-price for what would be a back-up player, there are surely better value options available for Liverpool.
