Liverpool have just over a week left of the summer transfer window to get their first signing on the board.
The Reds have so far coasted through the whole of the three months since the end of the last season without adding to their squad.
It has not necessarily been for a lack of trying, however. Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, only to be met with a U-turn from the Spaniard after he’d given his word to the Reds.
Following the rejection from Zubimendi, it was claimed that Liverpool did not have a midfield alternative to the Euro 2024 winner.
Despite that, reports are now suggesting that Arne Slot does have his eye on someone after all.

Liverpool closely watching Daniel Svensson
Most Liverpool supporters would agree that the midfield is the crucial area for Slot to upgrade this summer.
The lack of a top class holding player really cost them last season, despite Wataru Endo giving it a more than decent go.
Zubimendi looked like a perfect fit for Liverpool in that regard and to a degree you can understand why the Reds seem to have seen it as being ‘Zubi or bust’ in the market.
Nevertheless, with all the scouting and data analysis that Liverpool do, the Spain international should not be the only player to have come out looking like a good fit.
And according to Football Transfers, Liverpool do indeed have their eye on someone other than Zubimendi.

They claim that the Reds are ‘closely following’ the progress of Nordsjaelland midfielder Daniel Svensson. So far, this has reportedly entailed Liverpool watching Svensson ‘extensively’ in recent months.
The Reds are said to have liked what they’ve seen, with the 22-year-old’s versatility and physicality claimed to have ‘impressed’ scouts.
Svensson has also reportedly been playing at full-back for Nordsjaelland of late, something which Liverpool are also said to have earmarked as a bonus.
In terms of playing style, Football Transfers claim that the Swede’s data point to him playing in a similar to way to both Eduardo Camavinga and former Liverpool transfer target Moises Caicedo.
Is Daniel Svensson what Liverpool need?
If Svensson is similar to Caicedo, then you could understand why Liverpool might want him. The Reds tried hard to sign Caicedo last summer.
Although ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts to land the Ecuadorian, failure to do so also saved Liverpool more than £100m.
22, playing in Denmark and not yet a full international for Sweden, Svensson would cost merely a fraction of that.
From that point of view, there is obvious appeal to Liverpool. But Slot could really do with an elite player to stick straight into his midfield and improve it. Svensson isn’t that.
So, the question here is: do the Reds gamble on potential and future gains, or do they go big and improve themselves as soon as possible. We know which answer we prefer.
